Inheritance and wills
Certificate Program in Islamic Wealth Management

This course will give an overview of the Islamic laws of inheritance applicable to Muslims living in America. Such laws are of significant importance because they place certain restrictions as to whom one can leave one’s estate and the amount that one can leave. However, the Islamic laws of inheritance can be accommodated and implemented within American system of laws by way of a valid will. A will is a necessity not only because it is commanded by Islam, but also because it can prevent local laws being applied to the estate in violation of Islamic law. At the same time, the will should comply with local law, without being contrary to Islamic law, so that it can be executed without any unnecessary legal problems.
